International
Convention
On April 11-14 the Tennessee Region
of Phi Theta Kappa hosted the International Convention at Opryland
Hotel. Four thousand Phi Theta Kappa members, advisors, and alumni
from hundreds of chapters attended. Convention speakers included
former Vice President and recent Academy Award-winning environmental
activist Al Gore, former Egyptian First Lady and women’s rights and
peace activist Dr. Jehan Sadat, and country music star and cancer
survivor Kevin Sharp.
The Beta Kappa Theta chapter participated with volunteers staffing
the Host Hospitality Desk and the Academic Marketplace, and serving
as ushers at the closing session. Our chapter also donated 250
“goody bags” stuffed with Tennessee items to the total of 4,000 bags
prepared for the Phi Theta Kappans who came to Nashville for the
event. Several Beta Kappa Theta members arrived early and helped
stuff goody bags with additional items donated from across the
state. At the International Convention’s Saturday morning session
Columbia State’s Vice President of Academic Services, Dr. Cathryn
McDonald, was presented with an International Administrator of
Distinction Award for her contributions to academic excellence and
to Phi Theta Kappa.
